Today we went to the Royal Adelaide Show - South Australia's version of the Iowa State Fair, if you will. It's an agricultural show with animals, judging, baking contests, commercial buildings, a grandstand area, etc. While there were many similarities to Iowa's big event, we noticed some fun differences too!
We tried a popular show activity called the Yellow Brick Road. For $20 we purchased 2 yellow bags, along with a treasure map of the Showgrounds.
The map pointed us to 15 different spots around the Showgrounds, and at each spot we'd see this sign:
At each booth, you got a yummy treat to put in your yellow bag! The boys got apples, pears, oranges, a mini muffin, milk, yogurt, and even beef jerky! It was a nice way to explore the Showgrounds and also get some snacks along the way.
The Show had the typical livestock you'd see in Iowa, including cattle. . .
. . .and llamas?
And whatever kind of chickens these are??
(This is not fake. They really had these colorful feathers on their heads.)
Umm. . . I'm pretty sure the Iowa State Fair doesn't have reptile judging or prizes for snakes, some of which were labeled as 'highly venomous.'
Or aquarium fish judging!??! OK, so this place is a little bit different.
Every once in a while I'm surprised at how. . . uncouth?. . . Australians are. This sign was spotted (by Micah, of course) near a smoothie place. Seriously, I live in an all-boy house and can appreciate a good poop joke, but come on.
