SUPER-HUMAN Cuteness

Ked and I decided tonight that Micah possesses the Superpower of Cute. Yes, we are biased, but this is not an opinion. It's a fact.

So if the world is ever threatened by middle aged women in grocery stores, you can rest assured that Micah will conquer all. Even with a Cheerio on his nose (he may be cute but his self-feeding aim needs some work).

I'm 10 months old!

I am becoming such a big boy. When Mommy and Daddy ask, “How big is Micah?” I raise my hands up over my head to show them I am SO BIG! I continue to crawl really well- including up the stairs! Of course I have a spotter available on such occasions. I can pull myself up and walk along furniture (and even try to do this with a toy in my hand!). I love to lick everything as I cruise past! I keep trying to stand; but my max time is only about 8 seconds unassisted. I like to walk behind my walking toy. Actually, I will walk behind anything that can be pushed across the floor!

I went to the zoo for the first time last week! Daddy put up a swing in the back yard and I love to swing in it. It almost puts me to sleep! Speaking of sleep, my napping is better in the day. Mommy likes that!

I’m eating lots more solids and “striking” against drinking my formula. I prefer “real” foods like bananas, cheerios, and graham crackers. I am a very messy and slow eater. What’s the rush, right?

I am very vocal, but mostly I make crazy boy (animal?) sounds rather than real words. I love to scream and grunt out loud! I make Mommy and Daddy laugh a lot. They say that I am a very silly boy!

Things I kind of hoped I'd never say. . .

"Micah, please stop licking my leg."
"The refrigerator is not a toy!"
"Why does the entire house smell like poop?"
"You have so much food on your face, you look like a Star Wars character."
"Seriously, stop licking my leg."
"Micah, you kind of sound like a demon when you scream like that."
"At least Micah spit up by the cat vomit so I only have to clean it up once."

Ahh, the joys of motherhood.

Micah visits the ZOO!

We took an impromptu trip to Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines this week. Micah had fun! He loved trying to touch the cage wire almost as much as seeing the animals. He seemed to enjoy the bigger animals who moved around a lot (I'm sure they were easier for his little eyes to follow).

His favorite were the jellyfish! We don't know if he actually liked the jellyfish, or just pounding on the aquarium glass. . .

Fun with Norman

We went to my Mom's house last weekend to help with the flooding that she had in her basement. The Mullers were there also and Micah enjoyed playing with Lauren (we like to call her Norman; but she doesn't think it's that funny). She loved to push him on the swing, but didn't always remember to get out of the way.

Micah loved the swing at Grandma's so much that Kedron bought one yesterday for him to use here. Hopefully we can figure out how to put it up!

Flood

Thankfully Indianola has been spared from any flooding. Parkview Church, where we were married in Iowa City, has not been so fortunate. Click here to visit the blog of the pastor who married us. The photos are shocking and sad; however a good reminder that the "church" is not a building!!

Micah Jolie-Pitt??

Not that I think Ked and I are Brangelina, but I've always thought Shiloh and Micah look enough alike that they could be related. Maybe I've been reading too much US Magazine!

(Too bad for Micah, he will never enjoy the luxuries of living with the Pitts. He's stuck with us.)

UPDATE: After I published this post, but before my sister read it, she commented that a picture of Micah on our camera looked like Shiloh! I guess we are BOTH reading too much US Magazine!!

Pride cometh before a fall?

So, I was looking at myself in the mirror this morning. I decided in my head that I am pretty happy about how my body looks. I feel like my tummy is finally firming up and I've lost most of my pregnancy weight. THEN, we went to church, where a very nice man asked me how my second pregnancy was going!! I gracefully commented that I am not, in fact, pregnant (although my unspoken thoughts were not quite so graceful).

In his defense (and mine, I hope), there are very few couples our age in the church. The only other younger couple there this morning is pregnant, so HOPEFULLY he just mixed me up with her. Hopefully.

All the things our boy can do

He can crawl really fast.

He can ride his bike (with Daddy's help).

He can even move along furniture. This is a brand new skill!

Micah can also survive a tornado warning; he experienced this a few nights ago at midnight. We took refuge in our tiny closet at the bottom of the stairs and he didn't mind snuggling with Mommy and Daddy one bit. Fortunately the "tornado" (we're not sure if there even was one) skirted south of us and lost quite a bit of speed at the same time.

Resources to Share

The ISU Extension website has lots of good written material on parenting. Click here to visit their publication site. Many of their publications can be downloaded for free. Click here to see the various newsletters on child development. I'll put a link to their site under the "Things We Like" list in the sidebar too. They also have lots of good info on gardening, safety, and other stuff too!
