Beautiful Foot

Last weekend, Dan and Shadley had their Celebrate Ethiopia adoption party. We had a mini Beautiful Feet reunion (since only half of us were there, we were just "Beautiful Foot"). Unfortunately Emily, Zach, Nox, and our trusty soundman Joe couldn't make it. Emily made me promise to take lots and LOTS of pictures, so here they are!

Here's Greg getting ready.

And Aaron at the drums. Sorry it's blurry.

Here we all are!

OK, Emily, that's all the pictures I took! I am such a slacker! Sorry! I know that Dan and Shadley took more, so click here to see their pictures.

Blame it on the Rain

Wow. We got a lot of rain last night. A LOT a lot. Between 5:00 and 5:30pm last night, we got TWO inches alone. Our rain gauge now measures 4.25 inches.

Here's what it normally looks like out our back deck door after a rain.

Here's what it looked like at 5:30 last night. Anyone care to swim in our wading pool?

I'm 11 months old!

I'm not going to lie, folks. Even though I look adorable in this picture, I've been a real stinker this month. I've decided I don't want to drink formula any more. I'm also not keen on napping, either. I'd prefer to be awake and mauling Mommy and Daddy. I want to be picked up, and then all I do is squirm in their arms! Fortunately I am really good at smiling. All I have to do is giggle a little, and Mommy and Daddy instantly forget about what a stinker I can be!

I am getting better at standing by myself. I can walk, but only when Mommy holds onto my hands to help me. I am on the move! I love to crawl over to the bookshelf and pull all the books off the shelves. Mommy just loves that.

I like to point at things and say “dat,” which apparently is a multipurpose word that can mean Daddy, Mommy, kitty, look at that thing, etc. I went to my first parade this month and got to hang out with both Lauren and Kyler. I am a much better traveler than I used to be. I continue to sleep well at night and am starting to like my special teddy bear (the one that my cousin Kaleb picked out for me when I was born).

I now have 5 teeth and love to eat grown-up foods. My new favorite is cheese. I love it! I can feed myself small pieces of food, but much prefer to drop them on the floor to see where they land. In fact, I love to throw everything! I often throw my ball around and then chase after it. This keeps me entertained for hours!

In one month, I won’t be a baby any more. I’ll be a big one year old! Where has the time gone?

Swing Time

Micah loves his swing. It's a wonderful way to mellow him out. We swung before bed time last night, and he ended up sleeping better than he has in a while. Yea!

I noticed a new tooth today, so that brings his total to 5. Hopefully that explains some of his recent crabbiness!

PS: Bonus points if you can tell me where the title of the post comes from. No information gained from the Internet will be considered (we'll use the honor system-or, the honour system for Team Camwell).

Mom Shorts

It's a sad day for me. I still have not lost all my pregnancy weight, and my body is nowhere near the same shape that it used to be. I have only 3 knit shorts that fit without a "muffin top" situation. I finally admitted to myself today that I probably will never fit into several of my pre-pregnancy tight shorts. So, I went to Target to buy some new cute shorts that actually fit me properly. But much to my dismay, all those cute shorts in the juniors section just don't fit any more. So. . . I had to buy a pair of Mom Shorts. You know, the type that you'd never see high school girls or even college sorority girls in. The kind of shorts that no one but a dutiful, sensible mother has EVER owned. My friend Shadley is getting her nose pierced; I'm buying Mom Shorts. What a sad milestone.

Farewell, Mossimo. Hello, Cherokee.

A English Question

Lately I've been speaking in the 3rd person; calling myself "Mommy," when talking to Micah. You know, like "Don't throw your cheerios at Mommy," or "Micah, you look just like Mommy with your stunning good looks," you get the idea.

So I'm not sure what to do when these "Mommy" sentences involve a pronoun. I could continue in the 3rd person and say, "Mommy doesn't like it when you lick her leg." That sounds like Mommy is someone else. But switching to the 1st person with "Mommy doesn't like it when you lick my leg," just sounds wrong. Should I just dump the "Mommy" sentences altogether?

I know there are many educated people who read this blog. Please weigh in.

Ol' Blue Eyes

Everyone seems to comment on our son's stunning blue eyes (everyone being friends, family, and even total strangers). Don't gaze too long; you may be swept up in a hypnotic trance!

Govig Trifecta

Much to Grandma Kathy's delight, all of her 3 grandkids visited this weekend! What a proud Grandma she is!

Micah had fun trying to play with (ie: maul) his cousins. He got a good handful of Kyler's hair, but Kyler didn't seem to mind. It is pretty hard to get them all still, smiling, and looking in the same direction for a picture. Is it just me or does Lauren's head look HUGE compared to Kyler's?

This is my favorite picture! Lauren is 2 1/2, Micah is 10 months, and Kyler is 2 months.

It was Soldier's Reunion days in Griswold. I had my class reunion (can you guess how many years??) We all went to the parade on Friday night. Lauren is already a veteran waver and candy picker-upper.

Kyler enjoyed his first parade with Mommy and Daddy!

Micah went to the parades both Friday and Saturday night and loved it! He sat by Great Grandma and Grandpa on Saturday and loved those big trucks with the sirens!

Some more "Firsts"

1. Micah got into a wrestling match with the tall skinny lamp yesterday. The lamp won by technical fall.

2. Micah and his dad bonded over their first fart joke experience (probably the first of many, many to come). Oh the wonders of having a boy.
