To Mother Goose or. . . Not To Mother Goose

Micah is getting to the age where we probably should be reading him nursery rhymes. We have a few Mother Goosey-type books, and Micah seems to enjoy reading them. Then again, he enjoys pretty much any book.

I often find myself putting his nursery rhyme books on a higher shelf so Micah won't pick them. If I'm being totally honest (brace yourself here for a moment of true confession), I don't like reading nursery rhymes! Are they even relevant any more? Sure, the rhythm and rhymes are nice and I know they probably help with language development. . . blah blah blah. They are outdated and weird.

Do I want my boys learning about 3 mice whose tails were cut off with a knife? Will their lives really be enriched by a weasel who apparently goes pop? What does that even MEAN?

How about it, Moms? Team Ma Goose or Team Sandra Boynton?

State Fair Tradition

Those who know me well know that I don't really like the State Fair. I'm always a little puzzled that it's such a hyped event around here. That said, I remember many a year growing up where we would watch the Bill Riley Talent Competition finals on IPTV. Of course I watched this year, and this guy was great. He only got 3rd, but I thought he was definitely good enough to blog about!

New Cousin!!

Micah and Eli now have a new cousin to torment! Meredith Noelle Muller was born on Friday, August 21. She is already very loved by her parents, Clay and Melanie, and especially by her big sister Lauren. I think she looks a lot like her Mommy.


Eli is currently twice as big as Meredith, but this probably won't last for long!

Don't you love her thick spiky hair? If you look closely, you might notice the little pink bow. Girls are so fun!


Here are all the Govig grandkids: Micah, Eli, Kyler, Lauren, and Meredith. As you can imagine, it's hard to get a decent picture of all of them simultaneously.

Umm. . . is this okay?

Now that Eli has mastered the art of rolling from back to tummy, guess how he sleeps?



That's right, not only on his tummy (gasp), but directly ON his face. It's pointless to try to reposition him; he just wakes up and is then mad. If we put him on his back, he just rolls back over. Seriously, should I be worried about this?

Pretty Boys

Believe it or not, these are the ones we DIDN'T order.

I'm 4 months old!

Hello everyone! It’s hard to believe it’s been 4 months since I was born. I’m still an easygoing baby. I’ve had a busy month with trips to the county fair, Balloon Classic, and Nana and Papa G’s house. I’ve gotten to see lots of family this month. Mommy is finding that I am becoming less portable. I need to be home in my crib now to nap well. If I’m out in public, why sleep when there is so much to look at? I do go down easily for naps at home and am still sleeping well at night. I just started rolling from my back to my tummy too! I have discovered my hands and love to clasp them in front of my chest. I also love to chew on my fingers. I am just starting to get toys into my mouth too. I can hold my head up better, though it is usually cocked to one side. I continue to scratch my face all the time. Hardly a day goes by without a fresh red scratch appearing on my face. I am giggling more; especially for Daddy. He cracks me up!

Also – I should have a new cousin very, very soon. . .

WARNING: This may be the longest post ever

This past week was the National Balloon Classic. This is pretty much the best time of year in Indianola. Micah loves balloons, and there was no shortage to see! We went to the balloon field 3 times.

Pay no attention to Mommy's double chin. Blame the bad camera angle.

Eli had a great time at his first ever Balloon Classic!

Nana B visited us last Monday and came with us one night.


Imagine our surprise when we woke up one morning to balloons landing on the streets in our development!

The neighborhood kids all came out to help the pilot and crew pack up the balloon.



Here's a balloon right over our house. It ended up landing in our neighbor's yard.
