Before and After: Bathroom Edition

We are lucky to have a 3/4 bathroom on our first floor; this is kind of rare in an old house like ours. I have commandeered this bathroom as the girls' bathroom (translation: MINE) while the 3 men in our home get the full bathroom upstairs. Thus, Kedron got NO say in how I decorated it (though he did help me; thanks, Sweetie!).

Before: Bland walls and unpainted beat-up cupboards and mirror that don't match the white wainscoting. And don't forget the old lady ceramic rose drawer knobs.
After: This is now my favorite wall color in the house! I LOVE the beach-y aqua blue. I am generally not a fan of painting wood cupboards, but in this case I think it improves the look so much.
Before: Crazy 80's style light fixture and 3 way mirror.
After: I replaced the light fixture with a simple (but more modern) one. Truth be told, I LOVE the 3 way mirror when I get ready in the morning, and I think it looks so much better with the white paint.
This is the new hardware I picked out. After installing it, I realized that I don't like it as much as I thought I would. I think it fights too much with the other colors and prints in the room. I'll probably replace it with some brushed nickel knobs instead (so if anyone wants these, I'll give you a great deal!!).
Before: More bland wall color and handicap rails by the toilet.
After: I removed the rails and added a little artwork.

Before: The indow with a broken shade you could never move.
After: Window with a new curtain sewed by my Mom!
The floor in this room is still pretty bad, but that is a project for another time. And like the rest of our house, this room is still a little under-decorated, but I'm giving myself a couple years to get some more things on the walls.

Soon to come: Pictures of our mudroom transformation - the biggest change yet!

A Tale of Two Sons

We went to a wedding reception this weekend. When Eli saw me in the dress I was wearing to the reception, he exclaimed, "You look pretty, Mommy!" I was really touched, because he's never said this before. I was also impressed as this is kind of a complex thought for a young 2 year old.

Micah's follow up response to me: "Sometimes you look pretty and sometimes you don't."

I guess one out of two isn't bad.

Isn't this a great picture?

Kedron took this during his trip to DC last month. We have nothing else new to blog about, so I thought I'd share it!

Something great just happened to me.

As I was getting out of my car to pick up the boys from Wee Care today, some guy whistled at me. I had just spent the last 2 hours bleaching toys from our basement, and had frizzy hair and my Mom Jeans on, and was carrying 2 bottles of disinfectant. Super hot, I know.

So thank you, Redneck guy in your baseball cap, sitting in your older car with your unattractive friend. I'm choosing not to believe yours was a courtesy or drug-induced whistle, or that you were from the home for mentally-challenged men just down the street. Most of those guys can't drive anyway. You made my day!
